The Black Gamecock iris is one of the most popular of the Louisiana Hybrid Irises. Thess irises are both a naturally occurring and a deliberately bred hybrid group of several southern native irises including Iris fulva, breuicaulis, and giganticaerulea. They tolerate a variety of moisture conditions from saturated to evenly moist. Preference is for full sun and generally moist soil. Zone 6-10.
